Team Development for Sitecore 5.6 has entered beta testing. As always, our goal with this update was to improve developer productivity and many of the new features are based on feedback from the successful TDS 5.5 release.

Team Development for Sitecore Classic version 5.5 allows developers to add post deployment steps to to their deployments and update packages. TDS Classic has used post deployment steps internally to perform a number of useful functions. Many of the developers using TDS Classic have requested the ability to add their own post deploy functionality. With the release of TDS Classic 5.5 in early 2016, this functionality is now available.

Deploying to a Sitecore environment safely and seamlessly can be challenging. The main reason for this is the amount of time it takes to deploy item updates. There are a number of strategies that have been developed to prevent this from being a problem in large production sites. These work well, but are beyond the scope of this post. I would like to cover a deployment process that uses the Sitecore Azure platform and TDS to seamlessly deploy a site.

When developing on Sitecore, using TDS, we have to install a lot of update packages. We don't use the usual package installer but the Update Installation Wizard. The only issue here is managing the numerous URLs that each project has.  We decided there needed to be an easy way to manage all the URLs and share them with your team.
